I sooo need an antivirus software, I have 2 computers in the house so I need a package that will cover the 2 computers. Does anyone know what package I should go for?

TIA!

Well, the good news is that you don't actually have to BUY anti-virus sortware, there are many free alternatives. Some of my favourites include:

-AntiVir - http://www.free-av.com/
-AVG - http://www.grisoft.com/

They are both available for free download on the creators' website. There should also be many more available on the Freeware List. I also should ask while here, do you need a firewall for these computers aswell?

EDIT: Just as I was thinking about a firewall, I also thought that you may or may not have anti-spyware software installed. Some free alternatives for anti-spyware software include:

-Spybot search and destroy (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/)
-Ad-Aware SE (http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/)
-SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)

As I said above, you could also find more alternatives in the Freeware List. Remember, don't install more than one anti-virus product, but for anti-spyware products, go to town!

That's great news - thank's. Regarding the firewall I am presently with AOL broadband which offers a free firewall but I am hoping to change ISP's soon so I don't know if I will still be able to have that firewall once my account has been de-activated :-\

Well, a few things. The AOL firewall isn't very good. Even while with AOL, I still would recomend that you switch to a free firewall like Zonealarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) (remember to download the free version if you do get it). And another thing about that is it will still be good if you get rid of AOL.

And what about anti-spyware?

Guess what there's an anti-spyware that comes with AOL and I have got that as well lol. With these free softwares does that mean that they aren't quite as good as the ones you pay for? How come they do it for free?

Free software is usually better than paid software in my opinion. But, you can't just google 'free anti-virus software', or you are going to get pure crap!
There is many free alternatives to paid software that will just crap out your computer! There is anti-spyware applications that will place spyware on your computer when you download them!

But, there is still software that is free and works well. For example, Spybot search and destroy. It is free, but the author of the software asks that you make donations to support the software. Why you ask does he make this software for free? Well, he is a nice person really. I mean, look here, at this forum, it costs me nothing to come here and post on it, I mean someone is paying for the hosting of it aren't they? There is also ads on this site that pay for the hosting, but thats not the point...

By the way, Spybot search and destroy, ad-aware SE, and spywareblaster can all be run with AOL anti-spyware (which again, is crap!)

I would say use NOD32, it's what I feel is best, although for free you can get a pretty well managed job when it comes to keeping your system clean. Such as what others have mentioned, Spybot, adaware, microsoft antispyware, windows defender, etc.

For a free antivirus...I don't really even use one. When it comes to firewalls, I use my routers built in one.

Thats all good for a firewall if your just worried about incoming threats, but for programs on your computer accesing the internet (spyware of somthing), you cannot block them with your router. Your router also cannot take care of things internally (on your network). So, you really should also run a software firewall, just for the added protection. Also, anti-virus software has saved my butt more than a few times, I wouldn't ever want to go without it!
