any advice?

I just purchased Adobe CS2 and have been trying to run it on my laptop with little success...so I have decided to try and build a computer that would run Adobe CS2 and give me enough power to do a little video editing also. I'm not a big gamer but I do need to be able to run 3-4 memory demanding programs at a time. I have a good monitor and am just needing a tower with all the goods. I have about $1,100 dollars that I can spend and would appreciate any advice as I am pretty new to this. Thanks
 
Adobe CS2? I guess you mean photoshop?

If you just want to buy a computer, I got my compaq just recently for about $680 shipped. Chop about $50 off that to get one without the Geforce 6200, maybe get a larger HD and you'd be good to go. I run Photoshop CS and Premiere Pro without any problems.
 
Thanks for the advice The_Other_One, but I have always wanted to try and build a computer and I felt that this would be as good of time as any to learn...so does any one have any advice on what would be the best computer configuration? I was thinking a Pent 4 with at least 2gig of ram 300-500 gig of hd. Any suggestions?
 
What about Graphic Card? Grahpic Card is the most Considered Part... Just wondering what brand are you thinking to get Grahpic Card :)

Here's a system I configured for you. It will be a freaking KILLER rendering machine, but won't play games worth anything... The RAM is awful expensive too. I'd reccomend getting the 1G pack as you don't REALLY need 2G...

The video card is crummy, but has great TV-Out, so it'd be nice for playing DVDs or edited videos. I know I like mine... The DVD Burner has DVD-RAM support, which is really nice for video editing(much faster than basic R or RWs) The power supply is just like one I had which was really nice. Of course anything can be changed...the case is just some cheap one but it should work fine. The 16x DVD-ROM drive isn't nessesary...

Oh yeah, I knew there was one other thing... I didn't include any case fans in that build... That shouldn't add much more, but you should get a good ones...

Unless thats miscommunication, that would be Adobe Creative Suite 2 :)

How does one determine how much watts of power is needed?

Unless there is a specific need in mind, one doesnt. You buy a good PSU and for all intents and purposes, the wattage doesnt matter
