Any differences in various company's ram's?

I am going to upgrade a Presario V6000 memory from the original 512MB chips to 1 GB chips. There are 4 companies listed: Micron, PQI, Kingston and Samsung Original. Are there any differences in quality between these?

I've always had luck with Kingston, personally. Some brands don't always play nice with some Laptops (or MoBos in Desktops). It's not a huge problem, but there are discrepancies out there with certain pairings.

Best bet is to go to an independent memory website (not Compaq, obviously, since they will have their stuff marked up quite a bit) and use a memory finder tool to get a list of brands guaranteed to work in your system. After that, hop over to Newegg and see what's the cheapest. Don't forget to read the reviews to see what others think of it as far as quality.

Are you buying it from the manufacturer's site? If so, get it from newegg.com instead. If everything's the same including price, I'd personally go with kingston.

Fully agree with imsati and Flaring Afro on Kingston. I've done a number of upgrades on laptops and systems these last two years and I have found Kingston to be an excellent choice.

Kingston has a memory finder that is quite good.

Crucial is another excellent choice.

And as Flaring Afro rightly points out buy from NewEgg because often the overall cost is less.
