I'm not a serious gamer; Max Payne, Blade Runner, Tropico, Serious Sam, and that's about it. I didn't want a fan that made even more noise than I have now, and I wanted to get rid of what looks like occasional text ghosting (grey lines to the right of text on many web pages) that appeared on my old CRT as well as my LCD. I wanted the next step up from my present integrated/shared-with-RAM video (just 32MB). Most of my work is net surfing, some light Paint Shop Pro work, DVD watching, but I do need sharp, clean text. I also wanted to pay below $50 because I don't want to pour a lot of cash into this four year old mobo.
Any input's welcome.
Tom

PS Thanks to Praetor for the top-notch Video Card 101 tutorial! A truly huge help.

I dont know that ati card, and i prefer nvidia's driver console too.

I had this card tough:
eVGA 6200 128Mb 64-bit
and I did quite like the card.

like said, i dont know the 9200's since i've never owned one.. perhaps its also great for what you're planning.

Thanks, all.
The x700 is for a PCI-E slot, and I don't have one.
I'll consider the EVGA card; not sure it'd work with my old motherboard. (AGP 4x/8x issue shown there)
I'd like a card with a warranty, SFG.:o

If you don't mind rebates, tigerdirect have a 9550 for $39.99, otherwise a 9600Pro at newegg is about $57. Either card is obviously better than a 9250.

Hey I wouldn't worry about the AGP x4/x8 issue as my mother board is an AGP x4 but I have had both a Geforce FX5200 AGP x8 and currently a Geforce 6600 x8, they just run at the correct bandwidth for you AGP interface i.e. x4

Fark. When I first posted this question everything was fine. This evening, I went to place my order and "Out of stock" is plastered on the Newegg page! Arrrghhh!
