Considering getting a new desktop pc for xmas with my price range being £400, do not need an operating system. I will be using the pc mostly for multitasking and some gaming. Just wondering if this pc on ebuyer is any good:

Processor

* AMD Quad Core Phenom 9850 Quad Core Processor 2.5Ghz,
* 4MB Cache

Memory

* 4GB DDR2 800Mhz
* 8GB maximum

Hard Drive

* 1TB SATA300
* 32MB Cache

Optical Drive

* Super multi DVDRW

Software

* No Operating System

Display

* Monitor Not Included

Graphics

* ATI 512MB HD4870 Graphics Card

Networking

* Network Interface: 10/100/1000 LAN, Realtek® RTL8111B

Power Supply

* 500W PSU

Not bad system, but i would go with the new phenom 2, verses the older gen, better preformance, better overclocking, run cooler etc. Im to lazy to put a build up for you atm, but someone will :P

I like that system but i definetely get a bigger Power Supply. That graphics card alone needs 450w and if you only have a 500w power supply you're going to be running that supply at full power almost all the time, Get a 600+ for a longer life of your comp. Hope this helps.

thats not how it works. the GPU itself only uses ~ 150 to 250 watts. a 500w psu is plenty for that system, but wont give room for upgrade in the future.

Well i had a very similar system and because of the usage of my motherboard and cpu and video card, my old power supply blew out which was 450w. I would suggest an upgrade to a bigger one because yes, the 500 will work, but it won't have the life the user will want.

cheers for the comments guys, just wondering if this system would be enough to run games such as cod6 ?

and how does it compare to my current setup, is it a big upgrade?:

4gb ram
amd athlon 5600+ dual core
nvidia 880gt

You will notice the difference between the graphics cards instantly. The CPU, if you put it under the right stress(not hard to do lol) will be very noticeable also. Hope this helps any :D
