Any hope for this computer?

Hey,

I was wondering if there was any hope to upgrading my older pc to make it at least slightly better at running games... Here are the parts it has...

Motherboard: ASUS A7V133 Socket-A
Processor: AMD Athlon 1133 (Socket 462)
Video Card: NVidia GeForce4 Ti 4600 4X AGP
PSU: AHEAD SH-350 (+3.3V@28A, +5v@32A, and [email protected])
RAM: Infineon 256 MB - SDR DIMM & 256MB Samsung Cubig

Please let me know if there is any hope for this pc to become decent once again without too much costs... Also, what few things would you suggest to change out to increase performance of this pc.. Thanks!

What pricerange did you have in mind for "not too much cost" and what kinds of games did you have in mind? (i would say, generally no thats not happening but it does depend on the games you looking to play)

Your best bet would be to get a whole new system, because if you want to play some of the newer games your going to have to upgrade almost every piece of equipment in there.

The price range I had in mind is real low, like $100-$200...

This is my old computer and my little brother now uses it. He plays GuildWars, City of Villians/ GTA San Andreas, he even barely managed to play Doom III.... I know it is a very poor PC, but it still manages to play these games barely. It needs a little more power, but I don't know if it's worth it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Well i would say upgrade the video card, i'd say something like a 9500-9600 series card from ATI, or the 5500-5700 series for nVidia. Main reason being that your motherboard only supports AGP 4x, and pretty much anything newer than those cards will be pretty much pointless.

Yeah, the graphics card I currently have for it isn't even running at its full speed because of the motherboard.. what about the processor?

The motherboard is good but its not AGP, but there is no reason to get a Sempron 3300+.

You can get the motherboard he suggested and an AMD Sempron 2800+ along with only 512MB of memory for around $159. This will give you enough money to buy a better video card.

EDIT: wow, 2 people before me :/

My mistake, i made a similar post and thought thats what i said. It would be a little helpful if you say who your quoting
Ya wouldnt it? ;) Hehe i think out of the 20million quotes ive taken from people, ive labeled maybe 100 of them hehe

Also I would like to point out his PSU is 9A which might get in the way of any major upgrade with out upgrading that also.

Heheh true indeed, a new case+psu will cost anywhere from 25-35 to get a basic it-should-work-well setup ... which, in this case, is a huge dent in the budget lol
