Any idea why my internet keeps cutting out?

I have 60meg charter net, and with there standard modem, it never cuts out, and runs great, but I need wireless, and I refuse to pay more for it, and rent a router, so I use my own Modem/Router combo which is this.

With this the net takes about 5min to work when you wake the computer, and then cuts out randomly, and you have to wait another few min, it also slows down, is say you click more then 3 streams on twitch, where the charter one does none of this. I then looked and was going to buy this

But they seem pretty similar to me, and I wanna know if it will fix my problem or not. In need of your knowledge gentlemen.

Its looks to be essentially the same thing. That being said, there could be a hardware difference and there will be a firmware difference.

An easy answer may be to simply run a router behind the modem instead of the modem router combo. Most Broadcom based routers will take third party firmware pretty readily.

Will a charter modem, work with a non charter router?

Instead of one of those router/modem combos just get a wireless router. Those combo units have sucked for a lot of people so I have read.

This should do the job just fine. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320091

Is this DSL? You may have a username and password to enter in the setup page of the router. If it's DHCP then you don't have that. This then would be simple plug and play for the most part, but I would update this router's firmware once you get it. There was a hack with the AIcloud these Asus routers use. But this is a soild router from what I've seen across the net.

It's cable. Hence why the modem/router combos were DOCSIS ;)
