i need remote access for my pcs. ive looked into remote desktop and vnc, but im really looking for something that would be easier to setup and wouldnt need me to hassle with firewalls and routing.

logmein seems to be free and competes with others like gotomypc and mywebexpc. anyone tried this?

thanks in advance

If you have static IP's for your computer, you can use Windows program to connect to them, its called "Remote Desktop Connection", under communications, in your accessories folder.

only thing is that some of hte pcs dont have xp pro, which you need to use remote desktop.

i went ahead and downloaded logmein and so far--pleasantly surprised. it has a solid interface and is pretty easy to use too. i have the trial pro version, so i can still remote print and transfer files. they already sent me an email with a special coupon code (7RVN-V5BK in case anyone wanted it too) so i can keep the pro version year round. this is quikcly becoming my favorite new find for this year. :P

setting up the firewalls is not a difficult task. Nor any port forwarding you may need. You should be able to find instruction online, or here for that matter :D

I use vnc all the time. Any program you install will have to deal with the firewall or port issues

Look into this remote access product, this is the best I have used so for. It is easy to install as there is no complicated setup procedures involved. It Works behind most firewalls and proxy servers.

somebody help me....

I don't know if this is the right place, but I hope that somebody will help me.
My computer freezes up 3 to 7 times a day, only when I use the internet, I don't know why...
would somebody tell me why ?:(

hahnhahn10 i would have opened a new thread for that one....

Plus we kinda need to know system specs, what browser you use etc etc

Look here for info on posting, info needed by others etc, then post a proper question in the part of the forum best suited...

I use "access remote PC", it can be used via LAN or via the internet with its RPC service. If you use the RPC service, it states that no matter what kind of firewall your on, it will allow you to access your computer from anywhere.

I've tried many programs before, and my 2 favorite are Access Remote PC and LogMeIn. LogMeIn is a great program for people that dont want to install client software on their computer (ex. schools, public computers, ect).

I use the XP built in remote desktop all the time. I remote into my pc at home as well as into my pc at work. As for setting up ports and such, its generally easy. As was mentioned above, all you need to do is make sure your internal IPs are static and forward port 3389 (windows "listening" port) to whichever PC (internal IP) you want. If you wish to have access to multiple boxes on a LAN, an easy option is to enable remote log-in of your router. I have to say thouh, there are security issus with doing this. Most routers do offer an option to be able to login to them over the internet. So lets say your router is set to forward port 3389 to 192.168.0.4 and you want to access a machine that is assigned to 192.168.0.3. You can login to your router, change the port forward settings to 192.168.0.3 and access your box. Of course, that box has to have remote access turned on. Wow I just blabbed on about something that you probably already knew.

Anyways, as I was typing this I thought of something. That could be very useful is someone created a 101 guide on this stuff. (protocols, setting up a LAN, port forwarding, etc) The almighty Praetor???? :D
