I'm sure most of you are familar with the dreaded AMD/Nvidia issues with the HP dv series laptops; specifically the 2000/6000/9000 series. Last time I tried to repair one, I was able to make one function for maybe two weeks before it began acting up again.
Just recently I obtained a tx1000 (tablet using the same basic hardware above). Wifi had stopped working some time ago and just recently it stopped POSTing. I tore it down, roasted the chipset with a heatgun then reassembled using fresh thermal paste and pads (didn't do the penny treatment though
). Also updated the BIOS since that's supposed to help. Three days later, it's still chugging along; wifi and all. I'm actually using it right now
Just curious what kind of success rates people have, if anyone actually tries repairing these machines.
