Anybody play Grid with a keyboard?

It's the first driving game I've purchased. After playing Need for Speed Demo and Dirt 2 DEMO on my keyboard with pretty good control - I purchased GRID - b/c it had good review online - and it was pretty cheap @ amazon.

Great graphics - and cool game - but the cars are tough as heck to control with the arrows on my keyboard.

Will it get easier with practice - or is this a game that needs a wheel to play well? I've only got about 30 min on the game - but I've been last on every Race I've driven - even failed to complete one

I'm guessing this is more of a Sim type game vs NFS and Dirt - which were more acrade style?

i would suggest getting a wired xbox360 controller to use. very good for racing games, and is a hell of a lot cheaper than a wheel

I'm not a fan of those controllers. I had one for an old PS2 and it used to give me blisters when I used em.

I noticed the track guide on the screen - last 2 races - and I'm getting a little better. I also think some cars are harder to control with the keyboard than others too. The Formula Racers were pretty easy compared to the Porsche I drove early on

Still coming up last - but I'm not crashing or spinning out anymore - just getting a feel and getting some cash for finishing races to buy my first card.

It all just takes time

All racing games physics and car control is different

Even with a steering wheel it took me a while to get the hang of newer games

the bad thing about a keyboard is that there isnt any sensitivity control. its either gas or no gas, brake or no brake, which makes it a lot harder

no doubt. When you go off the road - it's tough to get back in the race with tires spinning in the grass. I started tapping the accelerator and it's working better if I hit the grass.

Id say it's worth getting used to them. You're at a huge disadvantage when your gas peddle is simply a button (key) rather than a throttle (trigger on controller) because you are forced to floor it when you accelerate etc. It's definitely worth working with and getting used to a controller. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable.
