Anyone else getting E6850??

Is anyone else getting this? I don't want to be the only one to have it.

Thanks
I plan on getting the Q6600... but not for awhile... they may have anyother price drop before I get it. (how often does intel have price drops anyway?).

I don't OC, and I multitask... a lot. So, the Q6600 fits me just perfectly

I can't wait to get rid of this stupid space-heater they call a "Prescott"... "please use prescott processors only in well ventilated deep-freezers"

My Quad is going to be got 2 years later than this next build(w/ E6850). The Quads will have new stuff then and I fill that they won't be that utilized in the present and near-future.

I have a Prescott.... It does decent, I am going to give it away, sell the comp, or experiment on it. If you don't multitask that much then E6850 is perfect....

i would go q6600 for the following reasons, besides a higherscore on 3d mark a 2.4 quad can run anything on high settings without overclocking and getting lag, also when games start suporting quad core what will be better.

e6850. i would get this if i had no life and stayed on my computer 24/7 and got rich so i can buy a new quad when games utilize four cores (this is a joke)

I too was still making a decision between the two for ordering on this saturday night. After tens of threads about the 'Q6600 vs e6850' on google, the general consensus was to get a q6600 and overclock it to 3.0ghz. I know you can overclock the e6850 much higher, but then i thought to myself what I would possibly gain, or use if i had a core 2 duo at 4 ghz (i'm getting a thermalright ultra 120). I realized that it was frivolous, and 3ghz on a quad would get me the best of both worlds.

Meh, dual-cores are going to become ancient technology soon, for the next year quad-cores will be the new fad. It seems like the new "thing" is creating processors with more cores, and not really focusing on increasing the clock speeds, whereas up until a few years ago, clock speed was the only thing that got changed. So IMO, within the next year or two, plan to upgrade to a dual core, then quad core, and then octo-core.

Yeah I noticed that...why do they sell 1.8ghz dual-cores?
I think if we are adding more processors we should also increase speeds...

:o

the quad and duo cores still run 10 times better even if their clock speeds are low
True, but if you look at when the Core 2 Duo's came out over a year ago, the clock speeds haven't even been raised yet from the x6800, until the 22nd at least.

You do know the Average consumer does not upgrade like that right? It might be two years before they're actually willing to shell out the monies to completely upgrade their PC. You have to remember that Intel and AMD have a much larger stake lying with the crowd than the enthusiasts.. and if things continue the way you predict then the gap between consumer computers and high end will explode, undoubtedly driving prices to the ceiling.. which will further distance the the two products.

I wanna see how long you can be an enthusiast when you order your 3rd CPU/and subsequently new motherboard, and possibly RAM and video card, in as small the time frame as you're guessing.. and at an exorbant price to boot.

I just got a new job and I am doing pretty well for this next PC... I could go Quad but, nah.

I don't plan on going quad, I might jump right into 'Octopus arms'.....
