Anyone know about Sager?

I'm looking at customizing a gaming laptop. I found one from a company called Sager. Anyone know anything about this company?

Good, reliable, trustworthy...?

I am trying to find out about them as well, i'm kind of in need of a capable laptop for some gaming and music production. As far as I know, they use some of the models originally designed by Clevo- they just set them up and resell. I'd be very interested to see some replies here, thanks for bringing up the topic Phoenix. I guess we'll just wait and see.

From what I have seen of Sager is over priced. Look into Cyberpowerpc.com or ibuypower.com, I had a friend who brought from cyberpowerpc.com and his laptop was really nice, never seen to have any problems with it and the graphics on the games where just amazing.

It doesn't seem super over-priced for what is in it. It actually seems cheaper than the Dell XPS with similar features. And as a bonus it doesn't come with a stupid pre-loaded version of McAfee!

I've been researching a bit and am finding that Sager seems to be a decently well-known gaming company. Here are some posts I found on other forums (and yes, they are quotes, and no, I did not cite them. As long as none of you are my high school English teachers then I'm hoping you can ignore my plagiarism).

Forget Asus, if you want some good bang for your buck, look into Sager. They're a brand built specifically for gaming and come with a wide range of nice options. http://www.pctorque.com/sager-laptops.php. I'm not much of a big computer company fan, I like custom builts or Macs.
I'm not saying anything bad about Sager, but they aren't exactly mainstream and it looks to me like they specialize in custom configurations. I used to deal with Chembook, which is a similar concept.
I was trying to remember the name a lot of guys pointed me towards when I was shopping. Sager was it. Very, very good from what I researched. There isn't a doubt in my mind that if Dell had not offered a payment plan I would have gone Sager.
I still recommend looking into Sager laptops, if you're looking for the fastest possible laptops. Look up some reviews on the SAGER NP9850, SAGER NP9280, SAGER NP8760, and SAGER NP9690.
HP = Has Problems. Dell and Asus are the go, Sager used to be good but haven't heard much about them lately. As an indicator, my Dell is just starting to experience problems after 5 years, and that's a laptop that travels with me (I travel 5-6 times a year) and gets all sorts of abuse
A very good company but not too well known is Sager. You could definately find something in your budget there. Also I'm not as concerned with the computer manufacture as I am the componenets they use. Sager makes a really sweet 15.4 slim design laptop that starts at $1000. I'm sure with a 2k budget you could customize the **** out of it. One of the idiots I work with has a 20" sager running sli. Yes it's a laptop. Looks more like a suitcase.

So they sound like their quality is very high.

their products are pretty reliable. alot of their older gaming laptops, back when they were the same as alienware, come into my store alot for overheating issues, but thats common with gaming laptops. the thing that makes them more reliable to me though, is that when i blow out the HUGE amount of dust with the compressor, and before i even apply new thermal paste, they always run nice and stable during stress tests. you'd expect the heat these laptops faced to have killed them, like the dell m1710's and pretty much any gateway fx, but instead they work fine with no bad video memory or anything. apply some fresh paste and they are good to go for another 5 years. i trust sager's designs, never dealt with the company though

Between their 7200 series and Asus' G73's, which would you rather get for a good multifunctional laptop? Average gaming and music production use?

There's only three comments there, and one of em is the OP's question. Seems like good info in the 3rd, just wish there was more said on it. Kinda hesitant about investing in a 4 digit laptop before knowing what I need to know, if ever i'm able.

I'll be honest, after my next paycheck (in two Friday's) I will probably end up buying one of those Sagers. Right now I'm just debating on which GPU to get it with. The warranty on it seems incredibly good. So if I don't hear anything shockingly bad about it within the next two weeks, that will probably be my choice.

So if I get it, I'll let you know what I think of it.

if you have the dough, go with one of the gtxm cards, the gt's seem like a waste to me... sager from what steve said sounds like a good deal, a good heatsolution is a big deal in a laptop

Cool man lookin forward to the review. I've seen inconsistent results from the demo videos i've seen of Sagers, but the lower scores are apparently faulted by the ac cord not being plugged in. I do kind of wonder if it's wise to modify desktop hardware to fit in a laptop, it seems like there could be issues with something like that.
