anyone know anything about this CPU

What do you want to know?

Basically, it's a good, inexpensive, single core socket AM2 processor that can hold you over until you want to get an X2.
 
likeeee....anyone that would also cost around 100???...i have 100 bucks to spend on i cpu when i start the build....right now this had a celeron D would it blow that away at least??
 
For the internet it would be fine, for Multi tasking a X2 would be better and as far as the P-4 goes, more or less but it really depends on which P-4

That Celeron D is actually a Pentium D so it's a dual core. If you want to go with an Intel processor you'll have to find a new motherboard as well. Depending on which one you get you can leave an upgrade path to a Core 2 open for when you can afford it. If you were to go that route I'd skimp on the CPU as much as possible (like take one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116013) so you have a bit more money presaved for a core 2. You should be able to find a decent Core 2 compatible motherboard for about $100. Also, you'll need DDR2 RAM for any AM2 or 925 or newer chipset.

Actually, I'd have to disagree. A Celeron D is not a dual-core, it just stands for Celeron Desktop. There is no such thing as a dual-core Celeron...That's kinda why they are low-end processors.
 
waitttt i thought you said that was a dual core..so you have a bit more money presaved for a core 2....so what do you mean by that...and would ether one of those 2 my link and the one in your link be better then a 3800+??? sorry im really confused now
 
Core 2 is a different CPU than the Pentium D, both are dual cores but the Core 2 is much better. Core 2 is the name of Intel's current CPU line. The cheap CPU I linked is not as good as the 3800+ but it is ~$20 cheaper leaving you with some presaved cash to upgrade again later.
 
id rather spend upgrade now then later to be honest so...whats the cheapest duo that i can buy and will it still be better then the 3800+???

I don't know how the E4300 performs, but the E6300 is very good and if you want to overclock it, it will clock fairly high.

If those are too much and you don't want to upgrade again later, I'd go with the 3800+ instead of the P4. It's a toss up on the 3800+ and Pentium D. The 3800 is better for single tasks but anything that's multithreaded, like photoshop or video editing will be better on the Pentium D.
 
ok looks like i have some thinking to do...but i dont do any photoshop or vedio so im ok there........but thatnks for all your help everyone
 
Since this fits this thread. I have an Athlon 3700+, and a socket 939 motherboard. Im looking to upgrade (can spend about $250 CDN) can someone reccommend me a processor. I would like AMD, and I play alot of MMO games online.

It would be better to start your own thread, but its not a big deal.

If you want to use your current motherboard, your pretty much limited to the AMD X2 series.

If you dont mind getting a new motherboard, the Core 2 Duo would be one of the best choices.
 
yea core 2 duo would be the best choice, but if for some reason you dont want to change your mobo, go for a high end AMD 4800 or something like that

EDIT: they are out of stock right now, but newegg always has really good spec information: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
