Anyone know where I can get Microsoft Flight Sim on disk?

Hey all, I am on the hunt for a good copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator X 2004 Gold edition. I ended up using my last install code chance on my desktop but the hard drive went bad so now I have no way to use my copy of MFSX gold 2004 anymore. I now have a windows 7 laptop I wanna get it on. So I did some searching and only found it sold by people asking way too much money for it just because it's a CD version. This overcharging for old games is getting out of hand now. Nobody wants to spend $500 on a copy of MFSX gold. That's right, someone was actually asking $500 for a CD copy of MFSX Gold which is crazy considering I spent $15 for my copy at Walmart only 4 years ago. I really hate the fact they are starting to go in a diskless direction for games. I prefer to have a physical copy of a PC game over a steam account game.

Just call the Microsoft robot and activate it. It works just like a Windows activation.

Or buy it on steam

I can see somewhat of this argument, however you currently have a physical copy of this game and it's unusable (wouldn't that be your Steam argument?).

If you do phone activation it should work, assuming it's still available. After all, you're installing on the same computer:
Microsoft said:
Q4: How many times can I activate the product?

A4: There is no limit to the number of times that you can activate the software product on the same computer.

I tried to activate it through Microsoft but one of the install disks seems to be damaged & wouldn't work. I was able to find a copy of MFSX a century of flight edition for $20 on Amazon. Very reasonably priced compared to the other halfwits trying to ask $200 or more for a 'new' copy of MFSX Gold. Some halfwit seller mentioned in the Q & A section on Amazon that $200 for a disk copy of MFSX Gold new & unopened was the 'going rate' which I thought was BS considering I got my copy for $15 unopened from Walmart. Collecting it or not that's no reason to try to rip off Amazon costumers. A sealed unopened copy of MFSX Gold should go for no more than I would say $40 to $50 at most if they are selling it as a collectible item.

eBay has the game, but Gold is expensive. I have Deluxe myself. Although I play FS2004 exclusively. Install is around 55GB.

There are ways of getting the game....

Apart from owning a physical copy and perhaps a few addons that may be incompatible, I don't see why you wouldn't want to grab the Steam Edition. Dovetail made decent amount of improvements to the game engine and transferred multiplayer lobby from Gamespy to Steam servers.

It should be compatible. It's MFSX 2004. I was running MFSX 2004 Gold just fine on my Windows 7 desktop PC for a while before the hard drive failure & now I am using an HP Windows 7 laptop with decent RAM & more than enough HDD space.

I am waiting for my copy of MFSX 2004 a century of flight edition which is supposed to come in the mail today. I snagged it for $20 on Amazon (crossing my fingers hoping it works) Gold is expensive even though it shouldn't be just because it's a CD copy, its the fact people just ask way too much for it claiming it's rare or something.

I was referring to the Steam Edition not being compatible with certain payware addons that was designed before the SE launch. FSX runs ok~ish on the cd copy granted if you don't run the super indepth payware addons such as PMDG planes or fsdt airport scenaries. The SE version handles those better because it's more optimized for more modern hardware.

OK so I got my copy of MFS 2004 century of flight edition today. Install was successful after about an hour & 4 disks later. But it seems to not want to launch no matter how many times I click on the icon. Tried a computer reset & tried taking out the disk & putting it back in the drive but nothing! I even tried installing FS9.1 which was a piece of software from Microsoft that was supposed to help but did not. Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this problem?

Found the source of the problem after spending some time on YouTube. Turns out the problem was caused by a security update from September 2015 for Windows 7 64 bit. The security update in question was the one labeled as KB0386255. Uninstalled that update & MFS works great now. Reported it to Microsoft today to see if they ever actually fix the problem with that particular update or throw in a patch in an upcoming update.

They're most likely not going to fix it.

Glad you found the problem though. I still recommend picking up the Steam Edition when it's on sale though.

I might consider trying the Steam version. The 2004 century of flight edition does seem a bit dated & somewhat glitchy compared to the other copy I used to have. After trying it out for about 20 minutes I noticed there was no way to look around the virtual cockpit which was pretty disappointing.

So... Anyone know where I can still get free DLC aircraft for MFS 2004? Are there any safe sites out there that offer DLC's of things like military aircraft and other helicopters & airliners that were never included in MFS 2004?

Same places that have existed for years. Flightsim.com,Project OpenSky. Just Google fs9 or fs2004 add-ons.

Also be sure to check out the Air Scheffel B738 I linked above.

I just took a look at them. Trying to join their site now. Been waiting for them to send me an email to register my account. Hope they do send me one. Would hate to have to try creating another account. As far as freeware aircraft they seem to just have allot of repaints but hardly any of the actual aircraft. I already got the Air Scheffel you recommended download but now I'm after military fighter jets like the F15, F16, F18 & the F22. Flying airliners gets a bit boring sometimes.
