This will basically be a home computer. Internet mostly, but do do some video stuff....Download, and burn movies, ect...
I had my last store bought computer for 8 years, so I want to build something that will be fairly futureproof if i want to add to it.

Samsung 500G HD

Videa and Sound just built into the MOBO

Thx

All real nice choices IMO.

If you decide on a black Phenom, the 955 has actually dropped in price, and it's the same as the 965 unless your going to exreme overclock. And your mobo comes with it :)

Your 640 is very good as well.

GSkill has some nice 1600 memory for about the same dough.
4GB would be plenty.

Is the Samsung the F3?

edit: Do you need 7?

I do need 7. Thx for the combo.

Will I really see much diff. between the 955 and the 640. Don't plan on overclocking it....And it is a few bucks cheaper, although backordered right now....

It is the Samsung F3

Thx

Well,,,,

,,,no,,not for that ^, really. Maybe a tad snappier. But for this:
I want to build something that will be fairly futureproof if i want to add to it.
It would go farther.

The main reason for the 955 suggestion was because of the mobo combo that brings it to within $20 of the 640. And that makes it very well worth it. The price difference has been $50.

Is it worth waiting for the rerelease of Intels sandy Bridge components to see if I can build something using them. Or will it be out of this price range...I hear they have fixed the problems and will start selling them soon...

Go for the Athlon proc, and 8GB won't do you much good considering you want to use the integrated video card. Mobo is good, PSU is iffy for me, but I have heard good things about SeaSonic. Rosewill is honestly a crappy brand, so you have to decide if the risk of a crappy case is worth the cool factor.

If you get a video card, get the Phenom, 8GB ram is still over kill though.

^ The S12II Bronze units are the best ones in the price range. Keep the one in the first post. :good:

Getting a 9.7 from Jonnyguru is not an easy thing to do. They're like the Simon Cowell of power supply reviews.

As for the rest of the system, you've done a pretty good job picking solid parts. Well done. As for the processor, the Phenom II 955 is $20 cheaper than the 965 and pretty much the same thing...you can set it to the same speed as the 965 with no ill effects. I have to say, though, a 925 or 945 might be a little more cost-effective, if you can find one. They can be had for $110-120. The Athlon is still a pretty powerful chip, though, and will last you quite a while.

As for the RAM, I doubt you'll use 8GB any time soon. I hardly ever top 1.5GB usage during normal use, though it can shoot above 2GB on some flash-heavy web pages with streaming video and whatnot. If you were doing something resource-intensive like editing HD video, I'd say otherwise, but for general web-browsing and whatnot, just get 4GB.

Never, ever judge a piece of equipment by its brand alone. The Rosewill Challenger is most certainly not crappy. In fact, it is among the best ones in its price range. Even a cursory glance at the pictures and/or specs would show you that it has a decent amount of room, good airflow, great cable management, plenty of expansion bays, and lots of smaller features as well like a 2.5" mounting bracket, tool-free 3.5" and 5.25" bays, and a removable filter on the PSU fan.

Also, calling Rosewill in general a "crappy brand" is just naive. Some (not all) of their power supplies are sub-par, yes, but those are really the only "bad" products that they've put out. The majority their stuff is good quality and very price-competitive.

edit: And he won't need a video card...this isn't a gaming computer. It'd be useless.
