I want to replace my hard drive. I have 2 external drives with backups of all documents and photos. I don't mind doing an install of windows 7 on the new drive, but hate reinstalling software. Is it possible to transfer all software from a backup? thanks

Why dont you just clone the old drive to the new? Some software can be copied over and work but most software must be reinstalled on new drive.

Yes, as long as the old drive with OS and programs is still in tact and functional, cloning is a great way to go without losing anything.

Aside from a clone and to answer your question directly you can try ****** Todo PCTrans. http://www.******.com/pc-transfer/transfer-installed-programs-data-to-new-hard-drive.html

The program is $50 though. Here's a rather long and extensive way to do it. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/294557-32-guide-move-software-games-drive-reinstalling

Here's some more information. http://www.techsupportalert.com/con...rams-another-drive-or-partition-windows-7.htm

Edit, I don't know what this site has against ease us software, but Google Ease US Todo PCTrans.
