Apple Xserve is password protected.

Someone gave me his Apple Xserve G5 that he was not using. So I power it on and the background says "TTGBackup" and the system is locked with a password. Also there is a flashing orange light on the front. Is there a way I could reinstall the operating system, or maybe install Ubuntu? Or just get past the password screen in general?

Do you have a 10.6 OS DVD? If so, reboot and hold down C to boot from the CD drive.

The orange flashing light means there is a hardware failure or error.

You need the OS install media to reinstall the OS. You can buy it from Apple if need be for $20: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
