Ok, lets see what everyone thinks about apple.
For starters- THIS IS NOT A MAC VS PC OR OSX VS WINDOWS THREAD......
Basically, lets discuss the pro's and con's of the apple products. What do you think about the prices, features, etc of the apple product, on both the up and down side. I'll start with a few generalized ones:
Pro's:
-Stable and Fast operating system.
-Quality Hardware
-Innovative features such as multi-touch in a phone, ambient light sensors, etc
-Slick user interfaces
-Great battery life on notebooks
-Most of lineup has aluminum chassis
-Wifi Included in all current models
Pro's Added by tlarkin:
- Engineered from the ground up
- Apple takes out unneeded things, to keep it streamlined
- Stable
- Competitively priced for what you get
- Based on Unix, NeXT to be specific
- No major engineering or hardware changes between models, they keep it simple which goes into the quality of the machine
- Great support, had Apple actually give me brand new replacement computers over the years. Never had any other company ever do that.
- Can run any OS on their hardware, thus any Application as well
- Not a resource hog
- command line interface for everything in the OS, yes that is a plus for me!
- $129 for the OS for everything, none of that priced tiered feature limit crap
- tons of open source software available
Con's:
-Closed business model, os runs only on proprietary hardware.
-The mainstream user based models are non user upgradeable for the most part(ex- imac/mac mini)
-Price
-Limited choices as far as hardware/hardware configurations.
-Non user replaceable batteries in new macbook(pro's)
-Dropping of legacy support very fast(ex- PowerMac/Powerbook + Snow Leopard)
Lets expand the list on both pro's and con's shall we? (Will be added to top post)
