Ok im building a comp for a friend. Hes not a computer gamer and this computer isnt for work purposes. Hes going to mainly use to computer to watch movies and surf the net pretty much. All parts will be purchased from a shop here in australia called MSY. And my friends budget is $1400 AUD

Processor - AMD x4 965
Mobo - GB MA785GT-UD3H
RAM - 2 x 2G DDR3 1600 patriot signature
HDD - 1.5 TB Seagate sata
VGA - 1Gb GTS 250 from gigabyte
DVD - lite on
Speakers - Logitech x530 5.1
Monitor - 23" 5ms LG W2343T-PF
PSU - Thermaltake litepower 600

So that comes to a total cost of 1152 thus far

For those who have realised i havent chosen a case yet, as knowing my friend he will choose a case purely based on aesthetics and not on its specifications, therefore ill let him pick it out. Also will have to get keyboard/mouse and ill let him choose that according to his tastes. So thats 248 bucks for them

Another thing you guys may mention is that the graphics card ive chosen for him is definately overkill for wot he plans on doing with it. However he would want a decent card just because he can.

A PC with a gaming CPU, an entry-level gaming card, gaming level RAM, and an appropriate PSU being used to....watch movies and surf the internet?!

I don't get it.

^the 250GTS, is not an entry level gaming card lol.

But i agree with you, why must you need such a powerful rig, for a guy thats not going to use all of its power?

You could easily, easily settle for a computer that cost 400$, and have a nice monitor, and it cost around 600$ out the door.

But if you want to pay double, thats fine.

If he wants a decent video card, "cause he can" Just get him a 9500GT, thats enough for him, its got cuda, and all the other goodies from nvidia, and it only costs like 60 bucks

yeah reading is fun xD

I'm not sure about the prices in Australia, but if you could get an i5 750 for same price as PII X4 965, then it would be a better buy. They consume less power and perform slightly faster overall.

u know wot the funny thing is mx344, i have a spare 9500gt that i will give to him if he wanted it. However im not sure how he will feel on a 2nd hand card. I originally was gonna go with the 9800gt however the price between that and an gts 250 was only 1 dollar. Might as well get the 250.

He set his budget to 1400 AUD so i catered for a computer that will end up costing him 1300-1400.

And also the i5-750 i thought i would go with originally. Did a post about it in the cpu section can read the details there. But basically AMD is cheapers n i believe gonna be more futureproof
