I am looking at buying a new fan for my pentium 4 ht, it is running a bit sluggish and started to run about 5 degrees C hotter than it did when new, I am looking at buying a new cooler to drop the temperature a few degrees (I am using the stock intel cooler)

has anyone used these? are they any good? any advice is appreciated. I don't want to spend $50-$60 on a cooler, cause for that price i'd rather just spend the extra cash and get a core 2 duo.

Even if you went for a Core 2 Duo you would still want a good cpu cooler. Those that use Arctic Cooling hsfs or Zalman always seem to have favorable comments. For the lower cost seen on that Freezer 7 Pro that would be the one recommended. Just make sure you apply the thermal paste/compound correctly. Some use the stuff that comes with that one or the Zalman 9500 and 9700 models while others go for Artic Silver 5.

Yes, I'd just use the stock paste, it's already applied to the bottom of the fan so ill just clean the existing stuff off my processor with alcohol and see if it starts to run any better, if not I think im just gonna upgrade the MOBO and processor to a athlon x2 5200+ that thing is a beast!

When was the thermal paste last changed? Every 6 months right?

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner to blast the duat and dirt out of the case there? After a few months fans see a good buildup!

I clean the inside with a can of condensed air regularly, If I don't the fans blow out a ton of dirt and pile up filth in back of my p.c.

I just installed the AC freezer 7 pro on my new build last night. Quality looks great, fan is quiet, seems like a good design. Very easy install, could be done without removing MOBO if needed. Not very big but barely clears the northbridge heatsink of my evga 650i. Overall it looks great and feels solid, can't wait to get a PSU and some memory so I can boot this thing up!

The Freezer 7 Pro isn't really isn't any larger then the Freezer64 Pro model for AMD boards that was looked at closely before going for the Zalman 9500 a friend ordered and was afraid to use for the last 939 build here. Artic Cooling is right up there with Zalman as far as coolers are concerned.
