Arctic Silver and AMD 64

My 1st build and for some reason, I cleaned all the thermal contact pad off before applying Arctic Silver to the heat sink.

I've since read that Arctic Silver can void the AMD 64 warranty of there is a problem.

Has anyone had a problem with this combination? Is this true.

If I'm willing to throw caution to the wind and risk voiding the warranty (I need some compound) How much arctic silver should I apply for proper heat transfer?

Well...

I would not worry about that. The reason they say that is because you have to take the HSF off and if you apply it wrongly, then it will not perform as it should and could cause some problems such as greater heat. However, the rule of thumb is to apply approximately 1 millimeter of Arctic Silver between the HSF and the heatspreader. That should do the trick. Some even suggest using a 0.5 milimeter layer, but when the two surfaces meet, the 1 milimeter will shrink down anyway. Just make sure that you do not overdo it. Good luck.

Thats because AMD was being dum

Apply enough to have a very thin layer

Thanks, after reading that it only tokk a BB sized drop, I had to go out at 1 am in the morning and pull it apart. I had way too much AS5 on it. Started to almost ooze down the side.
What an idiot. Cleaned it all off, applied the BB sized drop, assembled and my 1st new PC has been burning in all day. Everything OK so far. Hope it stays that way for the rest of the driver and software installs.

Thanks for your help!
