Are all notebooks made in china?

Been looking for a new notebook computer and I was surprised that every brand I have seen is made in China. This includes: HP, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, Gateway. Customized Dell's are assembled in the US, but with product from China. I'm not sure about IBM, except that a Chineese company bought the pc division.

So my question is this, are all laptops made in China? No Korea, Malaysia, etc?

Thanks.

replace the word "notebooks" with electronics and the answer will be yes:rolleyes:

heck, replace the world notebook with "everything" and it'll still be close to correct.

And my notebook is made in Malaysia

About 70% is done in China and a lot of companies are from Taiwan, but only makes about 15% and outsource it all to China- cheaper labor. It's like the US outsourcing stuff to neighboring Mexico or Canada. There's a few in Japan (8%) and Korea+US is less than 1%. But Korea does make many internal components though.

tru... i swear i saw a rock the other day that said "Made In China" on it... it was at a fish place

I usually only purchase made in China products as a last resort or if there is no other alternative. This is for reasons that could be it's own topic I guess. But usually I do pretty well with finding product made in other countries it just takes some looking. I just didn't expect every laptop so far to say made in or product of China.

Funny thing is the Dell chat people twice told me that a notebook from them would not say made in China on it, but rather made in the USA. A computer that says made in the USA? This sounded funny to me. I called them to ask the question a third time and this time I got the truth that the product will say made in China, but it is just put together here.

I guess I'll keep searching.

Some are assembled here, but many of the Dell reps you talk to don't know themselves. Dell outsource 100% (yes, 100%) of their mobile computers. They will assemble some for quicker customizing. Nothing wrong with that. Just about every company outsource their products. Just that Dell, Apple, Acer, and Gateway does 100% of it.

I have a few things that say; "Assembled in South Korea, finished in China"

So, they start putting it together in one country, ship it half done, then finish it in China? Seems like it would jsut be cheaper to do it all in China. Maybe they do the advanced parts and then send it to China when it only needs manual/easy assembly to complete I dunno.

Many older AMD Chips were made in Malaysia I believe.

maybe import taxes are avoided

The way I look at it, it was made by a human,,,, when they are being assembled by Venusians on Venus, that's when it's time to worry.

haha labor is cheaper in China because people are less scarce... i mean overpopulation = cheap labor right, theyre all fighting for jobs.

nothing funny at all, china really soon will stand the first biggest economics country. There is no time for us to laugh them, because one day they are stronger then us, it's time for them to laugh at us.

remember long time ago everything was made in taiwan, those companies moved their factories to china for cheaper labor and tax. But those companies are still the same.
