Are my C2D temps too high?

Hi everyone!

I just installed a new HSF yesterday; the Neon cooler 775-BL. Im sure I did everything right, but my temps are very high... I used TAT to get these temps.

FULL LOAD:

Core 1 = 64C
Core 2 = 65C

IDLE:

Core 1 = 42C
Core 2 = 42C

I have not done any overclocking. Will these temps improve as the thermal paste hardens? I am using the paste that came with the cooler...

Is it safe to continue using this computer?

Thanks

It seems ok to me. TAT is reading an internal temperature not the case temperature. 65C Tj is still below the Tjmax of 85C or 100C depending on the model. The case temperature will be around 15C cooler than the temperature TAT reports.

I can't seem to find the documents to say for sure, but I think only the 6700/6800s are 100c.
In any event, if your CPU gets too hot and themal management is enabled the PROCHOT signal will be sent and it will throttle the CPU to prevent damage. If thermal management is disabled, THERMTRIP will be sent (this cannot be disabled) when the CPU gets too hot and it gets shut down. The trip temperature is set individually during manufacturing.

In any event anything you can do to keep your processor cooler is a good thing, although the temperatures you are at now are safe.

Edit: Since I can't find the right document, I can point you to a utility: http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ This reads the Tjuntion.

OK thanks for your wise advice Cromewell - I can sleep easy now!

One more question - How come PCWIzard says my Processor temperature as 37C and Core 1 and Core 2 as 41C each... which one should I believe?

Thanks

Yeah, same here... when i go to PC wizard it says that the CPU temp is 41C... then when i restart the compy and go to bios its like 45-46C???
