Are pentium 4s better than Core2Duo??

You're using 55% CPU when BROWSING WEB PAGES?!
3 monitors, OK(mostly the video card will handle that) but that's still a HUGE amount of utilization for that task.
 
Unless you buy their most expensive Core 2 Duos, you will not see a performance difference. Core 2 Duo advantages are in less fan noise, through lower power consumption.

Yes, low end Core 2 Duos are overpriced by a lot.
It all comes down to whether noise makes any difference or not.

Since there are Pentiums that are quiet, I cannot find a justification for a Core 2 Duo.
 
I don't give a rat's ass what anyone says, any of the CORE 2 DUOs BEAT ANY PENTIUM. Will someone please pull up those benchmarks?

The only good version of Vista is Home Basic, no glassy interface, no junk that you don't need, and it still runs DX10.
 
Having used a Pentium D and a Core 2 Duo the latter thrashed its opponent, it ran quieter, faster and it used less power. I think the E6300 is fantastic value for money, and the money you spend on the chip will be brought back to you by electricity savings!

So yeah, I'm not seeing any Pentium D's surpassing the most expensive core 2 duos, heck, the XE 965 barely beat the E6300.

That should combat that idiotic IT support guy's opinion. IT support sucks today, I could do what 50 of the morons think they can do in one day.
 
lol... e6300 stock, mostly ties he P4EE

not to mention with a budget mobo and a 4300 you can get 2.8ghz pretty easy...
 
Aren't Pentiums generations old? How can you even compare a E6600 to a P4?

Now i'm wondering... is the P4 comparable to an E6600 at all? I mean I know the E6600 is better but how much better? I figured it was tons better in every aspect of processing.
 
i have a prescott 3.6 p4, and with pcmark i scored a 2700

e6600 scores are typically around 4500-5000

so it's almost 2x as fast

not to mention the benefits of multiple cores go far beyond simple benchtesting

you could be running a cpu intensive process, while doing something else like browsing the internet completely uneffected

with my prescott, i'd be waiting for the intensive task to complete before i started doing much else....
