are quadcores overclockable

Depends on what you want to do. I am sure you OC them to some degree.

you can run a q6600 @ 3.2, 3.6, or even 4.0 if you've got the cojones

and of the course the ddr1000 ram, which will cost you an arm and a leg

you could do 3.6 with ddr2 800 and a water cooling rig, tho

that would be nuts

i do alot of gaming and want the best preformance.

like in a year i dont want a core 2 due e6600 to be laging then u need to get a new cpu.

if a 8600 graphics will turn out to be as a 7900 or better id rather get that and the quad

i honestly have no idea what you just said

i gaurantee whatever you get, it will be far overshadowed in a year or two

that's life

Lol, but yeah he's right.. I wonder if we'll ever get to the point where technology can last longer than the average fruit fly's lifespan. Possibly.. I believe they're actually seeing a slowing of that one guys law.. you know the one that states computing power will double every 18 months.

oh, i don't know about that...

clock speeds have come to a hault (even a decline) over the last 2 years, but their efficiency and computations per cycle have increased dramatically

a c2d 1.8 destroys my prescott 3.6ghz

i guess it's all about how well you cope with not being on top of the tech bandwagon all the time. i started getting into computers right when i got into college. i bought an athlon xp 1600+ computer with 256mb RAM computer custom built on ebay for $400 in Dec of 2001. i started playing starcraft and then counter strike, and i upgraded to a geforce 3 ti500 card and 256 more RAM. i still have that same computer and all i've done to it was add a new PSU and mobo in that time frame because the originals failed. the ebay rig has lasted me years and still plays CS and Starcraft like a champ.

only recently have i had the urge to play some of the newer games, which is why i will build a new rig soon. but my computer still runs strong without any problems, so it's not like i have a solid reason to spend the $1000+ on a computer, other than just wanting to try some new games that wouldn't look as good on my current computer.

try to do like me and hop off the bandwagon for 6 years if you're one of those guys that has to be up to date every 18 months ;) i can't imagine how fast my daily operations in windows are going to seem when i get than new C2D!

Once you start building, there is alway the urge to always keep upgrading. My general rule is that I won't upgrade unless it doesn't cost anything (rare, but it happens).

Same thing happened to me. But now that I have a laptop, I dont get that urge, since its alot harder to upgrade a laptop besides adding more RAM :P
