Are Raptors That Good?

Im going to be building a new computer and one thing that i cant decide on is whether to get a raptor and a 250gb data drive vs getting just a 500gb drive. The raptor combo is certainly more expensive so i was wonering if the raptor would really be worth it. O and i will be using this computer for gaming. thx

When I build Rigs I try to always have a master set of drive/drives and a slave set. So the master set can be use just for OS/apps that are running and the the slave set purly for storage.

Weather its with or with out raptors its a good way to go about it IMO.

O one more question. How do u assign the hard drives to specific functions. Like the raptor to OS and games and the 250 for data. Is there a simple way to do that?

You won't notice a difference between the 7200RPM and 10000RPM drive, so just get a Western Digital Caviar SE16 250Gb or 500Gb...

This is for Windows XP (and prolly 2000 also)

If you want Windows to be by itself on it own partition without anything else, you can completely redirect the location of your Program Files folder and your My Documents/Music/Pictures folder

To redirect your My Documents/Music/Pictures folders, just right-click it on your start menu and change the location from the "Target" tab

To redirect your Program Files folder:
Go to Start>Run type in "regedit"

Navigate through to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

on the right window you should see ProgramFilesDir
just double click it and change the drive letter to whatever partition you want your programs to default to installation to.

Also, Raptors are too expensive, it would be cheaper to just get a similar size RAID array and then you would actually get even better performance too.
