are there disadvantages of large RAM sticks?

well.. im thinking of getting new RAM, so i can overclock a bit more :)
im thinking of getting 2x 1Gb or 2x 2Gb. but,.. are there any disadvantages on large RAM sticks? ( like higher latenchy's, or whatever?)
the RAm would be Kingston (Matched pair's of RAM)

I dont think theres a noticeable difference at all.And why get 4gb of ram,is it really necessary?

well.. its either 2Gb (1x 1Gb) or 4Gb ( 2x 2Gb).
Im just wondering, the prices vare quite a lot over here atm, and sometimes the 4Gb is just $20 more expensive than the 2Gb ( and i think thats worth it, since i play Flight simpulator's etc quite a lot :) )

Sounds like you're choosing between a high quality, high speed 2x1GB kit and a low quality, way-lower-speed 2x2GB. The extra 2GB isn't "necessary" yet. I'd say get the best 2x1GB kit you can get before you sacrifice to get another 2 gig.

Kingston does not exactly take the performance crown. It's budget RAM. It gets you buy, but doesn't exactly win any records.

I assume you're upgrading the motherboard in your sig? I don't feel like waiting for the manual to download, but that board apparently can support UP TO 4G RAM. Usally, a motherboard's max RAM capacity is divided out between the slots(I'm sure there's a better way to say this :P) But in other words, I suspect that board can only accept 4x1G chips, and not 2x2G...

well... i was thinking of getting another motherboard yes.. i just havnt found a good s939 overclocking SLI board yet :(

No skt 939 motherboard will support 8GB total or 2x2GB. Only newer LGA775 boards and skt AM2 support 8GB.

lol actually, the sticks aren't larger. they're more dense. anyways, normally a company will sell them in different density's with the same specs (eg ddr400 2-2-2-5 512mb/1024mb dimm's) but the difference is really that they just raise the voltage on the higher density's. some company's have ways of creating better memory chips, faster or denser... but generally the higher density ones are less overclockable.

model
F2-6400CL4D-1GBPK
F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK
note that the only difference is that one is 2x512mb and 1.9-2.0V and the other is 2x1gb and 2.0-2.1V
meaning, to hit the same speeds they needed more voltage... so they're less overclockable.

although, i think we've already went over the fact that memory speed matters MUCH less than memory size does. more memory is definitely a better choice, but too much memory can be a waste of money depending on the time you buy.
overclocking your memory will yield much smaller results in most applications in comparison with cpu (or gpu for gaming) overclocking, as always.

t ahts weird tough... since its DDR ram.. and as far as i know all AM2 and LGA775 are DDR2.. now im pretty sure you can use force to get the ddr sticks in there.. but i doubt they would work.

Lol Ku Sama you are trying ssooo hard to sell that board on her. Then again, it WOULD be a good board for her.

im not selling my board, im keeping it and upgrading my processor to a 4800+, but im just telling her that she should REALLY look into the DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR Expert

You're right, they do support DDR2,but they also support up to 8gb of ram...and some i think up to 16gb...but what he said was 939 mobos cant support more than 4gb of ddr ram.

i know what you said.. but the 2Gb stciks are DDR RAM, not DDR2.. whats the point of making 2Gb sticks DDR then if no board supports it?

as for Ku sama, i had a look for that board here.. but im having a tough time finding it :(
