are these specs good for gaming

I wasnt on about the old Xbox.

And thanks for the info about its DX version. Just think of it this way, you will get better performance for the price from a computer. Assuming DX9, at $249. Its a Tricore, so assume a Phenom II x3 720.

i couldnt find a good DX9 card, so I just found a medium DX10. So it will do a lot more than a 360.

add a linux, and you have a better system for the same price.

that has no cooler and i'm pretty sure the cpu would be closer to a athlon x2 since they are faster and newer so it would even out prob.

Even so, add say 30 for a cooler. now you have a system that will, not might, will outperform the 360 and within the cost of a 360 and a game.

The Phenom II 720 was a hell of a processor. Still own one and have probably had 8 of them. No, the Athlon II X2 is not faster, plus the 720 is unlocked. The 720 was a B2 stepping and the Athlon II is a C3. But considering the 720 is unlocked it wil clock higher then the Athlon II unless you have a really good board. Plus the 720 has 6mb. of L3.

720 is definitely faster than an Athlon II X2 overall, especially because it has an extra core and the L3 cache. Thats really a no brainer, there is zero new architecture about Athlon II.
But it does not take a really good board to overclock an Athlon II past what most 720's can do. Even a crap board can do 250 bus, which with an Athlon II 250 is 3.75ghz. Any mid range board can do atleast 280 bus, more than the Athlon II x2 can do anyway on air.

Still, I would take a 720 at 3.6ghz over an Athlon II 250 at 3.8 or even 4ghz anyday.
