I have a Asus laptizzy at 2.0ghz due core thingy and 2gb ram. even when its just sitting there playing itunes the temps of the CPU is like 58C is this bad?

anyting i can do to make it overheatless? thanks :D

im not sure if thats high but i have one of those "laptop table" thingys that fold open to lay it on for better airflow because mine tends to get a bit warm lying on my bed or a pillow.

Yes, those temps are V.high for a laptop under no workload. My brother's laptop's fan broke and it was around 55C when surfing th internet and listening to music.

How long have you had it?

It's a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo im guessing right? Those temps are pretty high, but seeing as it's a laptop theres not much you can do about it. Make sure that none of the vents are blocked and that the fans work, as the problem could be with a burned out fan or blocked vent.

Also, what are the temps under load? And what are you using to measure the CPU temp?

yeah its core 2 duo and the vents arent blocked. i'll recheck but im sure they arent.

im using PC wizard and speedfan and they are giving me the same temps. also what is underload? is that when i first load?

when i first boot its like 33c

:(

ive only had it a about a month or so. it was brand new when i bought it also.

Could you post a link to your table thing please :)

3% increase in resistance between 55c and 70c is not enough to make a difference in performance and not enough to damage the processor in any way. They're a little more durable than 2yrs ago

so im getting 60 now and all is good? even though i am only virus scanning? what could be casuing these high temps? i have my laptop proped up for better air circulation.

i also use my computer pretty much all day could this also be one of the problems?

Thanks :)

my laptop runs pretty hot, idles at about 47c and full cpu for about an hour 72c. Spoke to intel about it and they said it shouldnt be a problem unless i keep it above 70c for lond periods.

that sounds alright. i mean i work with my laptop all day every day, well i work with a computer and this laptizzy is new so it seems all good! i havent actually been turing it off tbh ive just left it as ive had work to do.

thanks for that :)

Dual and quad cores are going to run at a higher temp regardless of what you do, especially on a laptop. I get temp spikes of 65-68c sometimes and I'm using a liquid cooler. And yeah, using your computer all day may have something to do with it. I wouldn't worry too much unless it starts to slow down.

thanks man! just one more question. could i harm or damage my computer if i was to be getting temps of 70 and over?

what effects could it have? could i burn it out so to speak?

thanks :)

dual cores and quad cores run at high speeds...its just how they are...sounds like it'll be fine...although if it starts runing slow i would definatly stop what ur doin and shut down...and yes runing it too hot for too long would cause damage to the cpu...some people have taken the fans off and heat sinks and then ran the hardest game for it to run and watched as it melted in on itself lol so if smoke starts coming out(doubtful) then u are kinda screwed lol

yup pretty high, i heard from some other forums that when building the laptops some of the laptops had a plastic covering on the bottom and they forgot to remove it. check that too
