I recently changed my pc back from windows vista to XP as some of my software didnt work but in the process ive lost my families hoilday pics that they wanted to print out. Is there anyway of gettign them back. I did a quick format when i put xp back on.

Please help me!!!

Normaly a format wipes the hard drive.

If you can get to somewere that do data recoverys they MAY be able to help you.

That's going to be tough. As Adam135 said, it wipes everything from the formated disc off, and makes new files.

format is not a big problem
the problem is if the data was overwritten which gonna make it very very hard to recover.
I had a similar situation and I used GetDataBack and got all my data after a norton ghost format

Recovery programs might be able to recover files. When you delete things it doesn't actually delete them from the hard drive, it just deletes the link from the hard drive to windows. When this link is gone it means that the file on the hard drive will be able to be overwritten. So if you are going to go ahead with one of these file recovery programs then you shouldn't do anything on your computer or install anything except the program to recover the files. If you are very serious about it and desperatly need the photos then you could turn off the computer now and make the hard drive a slave driver on another computer and install the program on the other computers hard drive but make the software run on the harddrive with the photos on but this can be complicated so its up to you.
