Artifacting even after GFX fan upgrade

I have a HP pavilion m1760n. I have upgraded the RAM to 2 gigs, and upgraded the graphics card to an nvidia 7600 gt. It worked fine untill recent artifacting. I replaced the GFX fan to a SilenX GPU cooler that should definitely have stopped the fan overheating. I even placed the heatsinks on the card's VRAM. It still artifacts even though the fan is on the highest setting and I have made sure that the blades are turning.

How do I fix this and what is causing the problem?

Have you overclocked the graphics card?

Artifacting isn't always caused by heat, if you've overclocked, lower it a little...

Artifacting isn't only from overheating. The card could be failing. I'd try it on another machine and see if it works.

As for the power supply comment, that could be a problem too, but I know the 7600 is also a very low power card.

well ive looked around but i cant seem to find the power supply specs for the m7160n so i dunno... if any of you find ti please link it that would be great!
I dont believe it is overlcocking because after letting my computer be off for about an hour i turned it back on and just started up WOW (which is relatively average in terms of straining the card) and I got mad artifacts.... so if any of you were in my shoes what exactly would you do?

The fan may not be sitting on it properly, but it's also entirely possible the chip is done. I've had that happen to me before. You overheated it. You probably killed it. No worries. Perfect excuse to get a real card.

well i only got it like 6 months ago but if that is the case, how do i check? i don't think i overclock that much really....

Perfect excuse to get a real card.

Don't be an ass hole. I know it's hard for you, but just try...

Have you overclocked the card at all? You say you don't think you've overclocked it too much, which leads me to believe that you have, put the card back at stock... Try that.

nothing wrong with the 7600gt! i used mine for about a year!

op, can you get a pic of the fan and heatsinks on the gfx card?

can you check the temps on the card in gpuz and let us know what the gpu and pcb temps are?

As several people have already said, this is probably due to an underpowerd system. For the eVGA e-GeForce 7600 GT 256MB DDR3 it is recommended that a minimum 350W power supply with 18A on the +12v rail, for the ones with the eVGA fan they recommend a 400W power supply. BFG recommends a 350W power supply with 20A on the +12v rail.

This would be bare minimum in my opinion. As this media center pc was never intended for gaming, it has a 300W generic psu, that needs to be replaced.

OP, can you borrow a PSU to try?
