Artifacting?

Hey everyone I've had my current rig for almost two years now and while it is getting dated I don't know why I'm suddenly getting artifacting in all my games please refer to the pic below and tell me if it's the video card or what.

System:
AMD x2 4400
2gb OCZ 2-2-2-5
XFX 7900GT
ASUS A8N32SLI deluxe mobo

Should I upgrade the card or just redo the whole computer it's socket 939 ...

Thanks

My two year experience with my XFX 7900GT had been ALL positive, but then I did run it on a Pentium D 945. Are you overclocking? Artifacting is usually linked with heat, its evidence that your card is overheating, so first uninstall and reinstall your driver, making sure that ALL frequencies are default. If you still get those abnormalities, then you should open up your case and give your card a good clean. The 7900GT has a really puny heatsink and fan assembly, its basically a little fan sucking cold air over little fins, so make sure that there is nothing blocking the airflow over the fins and see if the artifacts return. The 7900GT is a pretty good card for everything apart from the recently released ones like Crysis, it should play COD4 and Command and Conquer Tiberium wars with no sweat as I have played them on my 7900GT before.

it's Team Fortress 2 and I am on the latests GPU drivers, BIOS and everything else I can think of to update

Are you overclocking the CPU? FSB? Are you at stock frequencies? The most likely cause of your problem is heat, so open up your case and have a look if you are sure that the problem does not stem from software.

yeah Im also gonna ask if you overclock your cpu/gpu?
since you got the latest drivers it's most likely to be the temperature problem.

See pic attached best explanation. Btw, I don't actually see anything wrong with the original pic posted by the OP??? Btw elitehacker, do you even know what you are talking about? Open the case if it is not software, and what? Dance around with the side of the case, in a northerly direction, at midnight with a dove’s feather in your hair? COD4 was released after Crysis, and the 7900 is power sucking beast, so if it anything, it is a power issue.... but I cannot see any problems in the OP's pic.

this is artifacting btw

No i haven't overclocked anything and the weird thing is that I've had it for two years and it's never done this before. The only thing I can think is somehow installing new drivers I've overwritten something such that I'm getting weird power overload or something. It looks like on SpeedFan I'm getting weird voltages for my negative terminals

+5 is 5 exactly but -5 is -8.78 and -12V is -1.58 unless thats what it's supposed to be . It's a Antec TRUPOWER III and I just got a new one like ... 4 months ago so it better not be that.

Otherwise I'm at a loss the card is amazingly hot to the touch though when it switches off in games after it gets too hot so I dont know if it's the card or the PSU or mobo giving it too much power. I dusted it all out no effect.

so basically either the card is suddenly losing transistors and dying which I've heard happens with some 7900GT's or I've somehow screwed up the drivers though I find that unlikely

Try updating your drivers :)

And clean out the heatsink.

Caboose, let me tell you something, oscary has already been kicked out of several forums including www.techsupportforum.com for not knowing what he is talking about.

Most PSu manufacturers are now moving away from multiple rails, because it can "trap" power on a single rail, and make it not available to the rest of the system. Effectively this means you cannot simply add the total of the 12V rails (amps) and say, well that is 60A. I can elaborate if you want.

However, your PSU looks fine in that regard, plus i cannot see anything wrong with the pic you posted. Is there any other evidence of problems? What is the issue at hand? BSOD, restart? freezes? You mention artifacts, can you post further evidence?

As oscary said, (lol), update your drivers, and directx here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

If you still have problems, please clearly specify what is happening, and then download PC Wizard from my sig and install it. Then go to FILE, SAVE AS and click ok. Then copy the text out of that file into this thread. Use the same program to post the temps under load. cheers

Gotta article on that?

I beg to differ. I was kicked out of there because they said that Rosewill were junk, and that I was ill-advising them.

As oscary said, (lol), update your drivers, and directx here:

This is rather ironic :) If I "don't know what I'm talking about", then why do you agree with me?

kicked out of several forums

FYI, I've been kicked out of one.

If you have issue with what a member says, by all means, correct the line of thought. Resorting to these discrediting attacks are bullshit, IMO. What's the count now, three threads? I don't know how you solve problems at that forum you link to, what with the professed ridicule and all, but we're alittle friendlier hereabouts.

It's like you said in another thread. In a forum, we want an effort from members to help to the best of their abilities. Let's all aim for more helping, less douchery.

Do you want me to bring out quotes mate? No-one on TSF would say a rosewill is good.
