i used the nvidia auto overclocking tool to oc my 6800xt. its been fine with the selected clocks for well... ever. it has just begun artifacting and ive lowered gpu and ram clocks about 50mhz each but im still getting artifacts. what to do?

more specifically.. this is during WoW, and generally only when i am moving while flying mounted

could it possibly be the cable going bad?

Or you didnt downclock enough, or unsufficient cooling. Open the side panel andpoint a household fan at the video card. see if artifacting does it again.
 
ive continued to downclock even further, and cooling is sufficient (temps @ mid 50's load), but it continues to artifact.
im more interested in why the card would suddenly start artifacting out of the blue.
 
Bring both clocks back to stock, and see if that resolves the issue. If it does slowly raise the clocks yourself.. Using ntune or atitool, etc.

Never trust your OC to a program. It could be overclocking too aggressively or not enough.

If nothing else works just leave it alone for awhile. it may straighten itself out.
