hey having a problem booting up my computer, it usually stops booting when it gets to a black and white screen that gives all my system specs, this is all befor it starts to try to boot up windows, and half the time when i start the computer up no signal at all goes to the monitor and i just get a black screen. i dont know what the problem is, since i have reformated my hdd through my other computer and put a new windows on it, it boots up fine as the master drive in my other comp, but my messed up comp wont boot up windows with either hdd, it freezes at that same screen, ive also run it through 2 diff vid cards and its same deal, so its not the vid card either, only thing i can think of is mother board or processor? and i have no idea to tell if something like that shorted out, everything looks fine on my computer, im runnin a pentium 3ghrz prcoessor on a ASROCK P4VT8+ and i got plenty of cooling which is what is leaving me puzzled as to why it may have burned out, ne1 know whats wrong or have ways to test my computer to see whats wrong it would be appreciated

if you installed windows on your hdd on a diffrent pc that could be the problem try to install windows on your hdd on your asrock mobo the other thing it could be is boot priority go into bios and make sure the hdd with windows on it is set as first boot device make sure all memory and graphic cards are seated properly and check your mobo manuel to make sure all jumpers are set right mainley the clear csmos jumper

hossalot, any luck trying to solve out your problem?

I have the same problema with my computer and i can't find a way to fix it...

I have a AsRock P4VT8 mobo, P4 3.0GHz Processor, 512MB RAM PC400, 80GB Seagate barracuda, a dvd drive and a geforce videocard.

But the system is always freezing exactly in the places you refer! It's very strange!

I've tried to change the power supply, the ram, but it's the same thing... I wanted to try the ultimate boot cd but the pc doesn't get to that stage, i can't boot anything...

Anyone has any idea?

any error codes during post?
disconnect everything you don't need and try to boot from hdd and then from cd.
Sounds like mobo issue, but you'd have to eliminiate everything one by one.

I've already done what you suggested but same thing happends... it really seems to be mobo issues, but i want to be sure of it

I don't have a solution to your idea, but i gave up on AsRock a very long time ago. I've had two boards from them (different computers) and both have had faults. One made a loud noise when on the internet!! The other one just made the computer go slow whenever it felt like it.
Funny enough, that's not the worst thing about them though, i've emailed them counteless times and never heard a whisper of a response!! There support is lousy at best, because i couldn't even get through on there technical support hotline!!

Just make sure you never, EVER get an AsRock motherboard again!
