ASRock bad Mobo?

I ordered an Asrock H61M-DGS from Newegg and it had a wrecked CPU socket. That gave me a very dim view of Asrock and I had trouble convincing Newegg I didn't wreck it. Eventually Newegg RMAed me a new board after I left a bad review on ResellersRatings.

I got my new board and I have to say it's a great board. The BIOS is the latest so all the CPUs in the list is supported. I started with a Celeron G540 and 2x2 Gskill rams. I upgraded to i3-2105 and 2x4 Vengeance rams.

Everything was smooth sailing.
 
In my experience they offer better bang for buck than Asus or Gigabyte. Why by a Crosshair/Rampage 5 for $400+ when you have an equivalent ASRock board for $200-$300? My 990FX Fatal1ty board was $219 - My Z77 Fata1lty board was $229. Aside from the cheesy "Fata1lty" branding they are solid boards. I've also had two of the mid-range AMD 890FX/GX boards which were also very solid.

Haven't run Asus or Gigabyte since S775.
 
I love my Asrock mobo. They also support VT-D as well as document that on there boards, which is a very hard thing to find.
 
The main issue with ASrock boards when overclocking and not, is that they use low quality components. Look at the power phase setup and you will find it. A Extreme 4 that everyone seems to think is so good, uses Analog 4+1 phase Dpak mosfets with a doubler. This makes high overclocks dangerous at best. Take boards of the same price, like the UD3H will have actual 6 phase digital mosfets. Much safer doing the same thing.

Power aside, they have known issues with the SATA6 ports not working at SATA 6 speeds on Intel Series 7 chipsets, and do not use Intel USB3 on their series 7 boards. Good for some, but I disapprove of paying for things you will not be able to use

Gold caps is one of the main good things on their boards.


Personally, I will never buy their boards again.
 
Not to necromance, but running at stock clocks with a 4+1 power phase doesn't really make a difference even if you ran a high end 8350 does it?
 
I'm presently running my very first Asrock build as of October 2011.

The first board had dead PCI slots out of the box so had to be RMA'd to Newegg. I got no explanation for being charged restocking fees for defective product.

Two weeks ago I started seeing HD onboard audio pop up at boot in Device Manager. Strange, since it was disabled in BIOS. The manual said to set it to "Auto" because it would detect my sound card and that's where it was. Now I have to have it set at "Disable", which didn't work when I first got the board.

I think my next board will be from Gigabyte.
