My brother started building a computer a little while back. He ran into someproblems and shelved the project. I am helping him clear the shelves of old projects. He has three that I have found so far. The first one is a asrock p4vm8/celaron not sure on speed yet/ 1 gig ram and a western digital HD 60 gig. So far The mb will not reconise the hd. So I cannot load the O/S. I saw in MOBO 101 that Asrock has a rep for low quality. Is this a common problem? Any suggestions?

Is it a SATA drive that you are trying to install, if so you need to put the drivers for it on through a floppy disc.

No using an ide cable. I don't belive the drive is SATA compatable. Besides no floppy drive just dvd rom/burner

Check around in the BIOS to see if there are any settings that you need to change.

Or try the other IDE port?

ya I plan on playing around in the bios when I get home tonight but I was just checking to see if there were any common issues I should know about before dumping a lot of time into the system.

New Info

Ok Got the computer over to my house and plugged it up. I don't know about the HD not reconizing but I do know it acts like it has no video. I cannot even get a blue screen or bios screen or anything. The manufacter show it to have onboard video card. Anybody ran into this before?

still no video

Ok this is defintly a mother board issue. I have tried two different avg cards one an old ati raid 128 the other a new g force mx4000 still no video. Where do I go from here? Help Please

It would not show the bios with the onboard video either? Have you got the 20 pin power connector plus the 4 pin CPU power connector pluged in

Ya the four pin unit is not next to the twenty pin like other boards but yes it is plugged in. I will however reseat the connections to make sure it is getting good connections.

Just wanted to update on the problem. I found the issue, It was a bad power supply. It was only hot on one section of wires. The ones that I had plugged into the fans. But another one I had laying around and it works now. But now I remember why this powersupply was laying around. It has a very nosiey fan. Guess its time to buy one.
