Assistance: RAM Installation/Compatibility

Hmm, sorry it's been so long, I have a question. I need DDR SDRAM PC2700, however I have been told that PC3200 will also be compatible, but I'm not worried about that. Assuming I purchase a 512MB PC2700 RAM, and my RAM is current 256MB, would this put it up to 768MB? Also, what is "overclocking?"
 
i have a 256 mb PC3200U and i wanna upgrade to a 512mb ddr i have a P4 2.50GHz 256mb ram. my motherboard is a gigbyte GA-8S650GXM...could you tell me what one to buy?...look on staples.ca or futureshop.ca becuase thats where i want to buy it if it is there...thanks
 
yes, you will have 768MB of ram, and i believe there is an entire section on overclocking in the CPU threads.
