ASUS 3850 1024MB ram

i was just installing a game to dads computer an it was telling me if his system can run it an it said the GPU ASUS 3850 had 1024MB ram, so i had a look in catalyst an it says the same 1024MB ram.
the GPU box says it is only 512MB why is this
 
there are 3850's that have a gig of ram, maybe yours was mistaken? you would be very lucky if that is true
 
yea thats ok he has 3G.
i was just reading somewhere on this site that it can't just the full 1G, is this true?
cos he needs as much mermore as he can on that card
cos we run it at 1920x1080 on the 50'' plasma, more memory better for high resalotion yea ?
