ASUS A7V333 RAM question

I have an ASUS A7V333 motherboard in my comp and I've been looking to add more RAM to it...the specs say to use DDR333 (PC2700), up to 2.7GB/s

How does that work? It's got three slots can't I add 3 1Gig sticks?

Is there any trick to placement? Do I have to have all three slots filled? If I only use one or two is their a slot sequencing I have to follow?

the 2.7GB/s is the bandwidth, and yes, that motherboard supports 3GB so you can add 3x 1GB sticks. Just make sure that they are the same speed (DDR333), if you get a faster one then it will just be downgraded to DDR333 (so it would be a waste of money).

Now i know you live in canada, but this is the type of memory that you should be looking for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211131

It is actually very simple to replace it, simply unscrew the screws on the back of your case (only the ones for the side panel), then you will see 3 sockets (unless there are already things in there), they should be right next to the fan, then just push the tabs and take out the existing memory, pop in the new memory (it only fits one way), pull the tabs, and its done.

Thanks...appreciate the help.

[edit] another question on this subject...I have two 256 sticks in right now....does it matter that I add a 1gig to the open slot? I don't have to worry about consistancy or specifc patters with this board to I? I couldn't find anything on the ASUS site.

I'm just curious becaus it seems as I look at the new motherboards for the other comp I'm building MSI Neo4 plat, that there is a sequencing to follow depending on the RAM you are using...

Thanks for any help...

you should not have a problem.

Im going from memory here since its been a few years since i had that motherboard ... do note that if you fill all three slots, the memory controller will downclock your memory to 133Mhz (i.e., PC2100). You can get it to run 166MHz (PC2700) again but you'd have to 'overclock' the memory. This is outlined in their manual somewhere.

You're serious? What's the logic in that?

So I'd be better off just yanking the 256mb stick and replacing it with 1gig rather than filling the final slot? Therefore 1.2gig is better than 1.5gig???

Thanks for the input so far...
