Asus A8N and IDE...

OK...so has anyone else tried to run ANY operating system using an IDE hard drive on an A8N motherboard? For some reason, Vista says my computer doesn't meet the criteria to load on my 60GB IDE drive... Of course, when I had both drives connected, it put that boot manager on my 160GB SATA, but still wouldn't boot. When I tried to boot using just the 60GB, I got BOOTMNG missing(or something along those lines) When I used the 160GB drive, I got an error in the boot manager. Eh, something about hardware changes I think...

This is rediculous. I'm half temped to load XP on an IDE drive just to see if there honestly is some weird problem with my computer and IDE devices. I mean, how different is it than booting to a BartPE disk? My DVD-RW is on the IDE channel...

If anyone is wondering, the HD is the Primary Master and the optical is the Secondary Slave... 160GB is on the nForce SATA controller, port 1. 3/4 are disabled, along with the other controller. When trying to install just a second ago, I totally disabled both SATA controllers along with disconnecting my drive.

You still haven't got that running yet? If you boot up with the...? you downloaded the free copy so you don't have an installation disk to boot with. Otherwise you could boot up with that and reinstall the boot manager with the other drive unplugged to see that corrected. When you unplugged the 160gb sata and disabled the sata controllers on the board you forgot the boot folder and other boot configuration files are there. The board here is an Asus A8N-SLI model.

I run XP Home on the 250gb primary ide, Vista Home Premium on the ssecondary 250gb ide, and XP Pro on the 500gb sata added last month. I think the download was a little ? incomplete? GParted willl clean the 60gb right away if you plan to download another copy or simply make another installation attempt.
