Asus A8n-sli Premium Question

Well i just RMA'd some ram that was incompatible and while looking at my "ddr400 qualified vendors list" there was the corsair twinx (2 x 1gb CAS latancy=2). On one page it says that it can have only two gigs in dual channel, but on the other page it says you can have 4 gigs in dual channel. This goes for all 1 gb modules. it says only two gigs can be in dual channel on one page, but on the other it says that four gigs can be in two dual channels. Im not going to have four gigs now because that is completelly unnecessary, but i think im going to want to upgrade sometime in the future. So which one is right? can i have four gigs or two gigs?

well.. i think what the book means is. you can put 2 1Gb sticks in the mobo for dual channel. so 2x 2Gb sticks wont work.
but since the mobo has 4 RAM slots, you can put in 2 x 2 x 1Gb, so as far as i know, you should be able to put in 4Gb.

however.. this would be a waste of monney i think
 
yea well im not going to do this now... but i plan on stretching the life of this pc out at least 7 years... and who knows! when i got my hp pavillion 8770c, it had 128mb which was way unnessesarry... 128 wont get you very far today

and eric0071, i would check the manual at www.asus.com because this motherboard has VERY strict ram compatibility... there are like 20 models on the supported ram list... i guess this is my first build so i have no clue what "strict" is but do your homework
