i saw a post in another thread saying this board isnt sli-compatible without a mod is this true? And if so what type of mod would i need? Or would it be better to get a dfi board?

if it has two pci-ex16 slots it's most likely sli compatible, read the description on the board, what people are referring to is boards that have one pci-e slot that can be modded to have two and then run in sli, it's much simpler to just get an sli motherboard

well if you're ever thinking of maybe getting sli, it's better to spend a couple bucks more now so you don't have to get a whole new motherboard later, so I'd say regardless of whether you're getting sli now or not, it's probably worth it to get a board that supports it

1. Which thread?
2. Not true. The "sli" in A8N SLI indicates that the board is SLI capable

alright, I was gonna get this board in the first place but i saw someones post and just wondered.
I wouldnt. The lower-tier ASUS SLI boards (A8N SLI and A8N SLI DLX) both have failing NB cooler issues. You might want to consider the A8N SLI Premium which uses a passive cooler or a non-Asus board
