ASUS DVD E616/verbatim dvd problem??

I just bought the above dvd writer and a pack of 25 verbatim x16 dvd-r. But the dvd dosent read them..it says the drive is empty insert a dvd??? Anyone know if there is a compatibility prob or verbatim dvds are shit and I should try a different type??? Dvd games and movies work it's just these blanks that aren't. Though I bought it for ripping stuff so bit off a nuisance.

any ideas??
 
Have you up-dated your firmware?
As for the Verbatim they are one of the best media out. But like everything you could have picked up a bad pack. If your firmware is up to date than try buying other media.
