Hi everyone,

Which of the 2 laptops below is good? Which you would buy? Is the price good? I am open to other suggestions as to brands and models.

A salesperson told me that Acer laptops are garbages, and wouldn't explain why. Does anyone here agree and why?
 
I haven't owned eiher personally, but from what I've seen acer have the build quality of sony and the looks of a dell. (not good!) I would reccomend the dell e1505 or the hp dv6000t

Thank you CPTMuller! The hp dv6000t system is perfect for my needs. The HP Expresscard TV Tuner & the 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery are the reasons I choose this one over the Acer & Asus. Thank you very much. I am definitely going for this one.

My other questions are:

Should I pay extra $$ to upgrade the processor to Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache) and the Ram to 2 GB?

Or the system listed above is good enough for my needs?
 
Err, I dont know if you need that much power, Could you clarify what sort of media tasks you want to do ( in example video editing/compiling, or watching TV and listening to music ETC). 2 GB's of ram is most likely overkill, I game on one with great results. I am almost hands down sure unless you do some hardcore vieo editing that the things I listed should be good.
 
If you are going to get the HP I recommend you get Windows Vista Home Premium. As for the processor I would get a Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz. I don' know the model name but I am sure you can customize it to that one. \

The HP will be a good system, but Acer makes some amazing laptops. No one ever see the Acer ferarri? I had an acer back in the day and I was a beast, I have a bad habit of dropping my laptops, and it withstood the abuse.

I will use most on watching youtube, watching t.v., record t.v. programmes, listen to music and will use it to learn create Flash and video editing.

I am planning to go with the HP recommend system from the
link to the hp customization section provided by CPTMuller.

Does anyone know of a place I can get a better deal for this system?

Please let me know, if you know of anything that I should add to this recommend customized system for my needs. I am planning to use this one for the next 5 years. Still debating whether I should upgrade the Ram to 2GB. Or add it later when the price of Ram drop. To upgrade now is about another $135.
 
When I get my laptop, what are the things I should look at to make sure that I get the right thing.

1. How do I know if it's a brand new laptop, is there a sticker or seal or something?
2. How to check in the laptop to verify with the SPEC?
3. What else should I pay attention to when I get my laptop?

Most laptops don't come with TV tuner, including Acer. I don't know if Ferarri come with TV tuner, but I know this one is very expensive. Actually, I really like the design of Ferarri. HP really has what I needs in a laptop.

If your going to be doing serious video editing, then go ahead and spend the extra cash.
 
I called HP sales line and was told that HP is releasing new laptops similar to the dv6000t series on the 2nd week of April. Does anyone know anything about this?
