Asus F5GL Battery

I'm fixing an Asus F5GL (Pentium T3400, 8200GM, 2GB RAM) for another family friend, and when you unplug it from power, it simply shuts off. This would mean the battery is dead, yes? I haven't done much testing as I've been removing infections and crapware from it, primarily. The laptop has Vista, the battery is detected as "plugged in and charging" but as soon as you pull the plug, the laptop dies. If you try to turn it on without the power in it's unresponsive.

Is it definitely the battery? The laptop is almost 5 years old, almost always left on and plugged in, so I'd think it's been boiled.

The BIOS does have a battery calibration thing but I haven't touched it yet. For now I want to see if I can get the battery working at all, even just for a few minutes instead of just turning off.
 
Either the battery or the charging/electrical system. I keep telling people its not good to keep laptops plugged in all the time, but they don't listen. Then they wonder why there battery life is not as good as it used to be. What percentage does it say its at?
 
Look in the bios to see if it has the battery level since it has a calibration option.
 
Doesn't appear to have one, but the battery calibration states it will charge it to full and discharge it, so I'll just run it and see if anything improves. Thanks John.
