Asus manual misprint, cpu fan header?

I guess the reason I'm posting is I find this hard to believe. Or maybe I'm missing something.

When setting up a new computer I always double check the wiring for the fans and case switches/lights. On this build I found several of the case connector wires needed to be repositioned which didn't suprise me, but when I checked the fans, both seemingly needed to have the ground and rpm wires swapped. Now this did suprise me, but I went ahead and rewired them to match the manual. I should be able to trust a manual by a reputable company like Asus I thought.

Fast fwd to the first power-on and the first thing I see is the bios telling me the cpu fan isn't working. I look at the case fan I had plugged into the MB header and it was motionless too. I'm no genius but it didn't take long to realize the cause. I swapped the wires back in the connectors and everything was peachy.

I don't know, it just seems odd that they could mess up such a mundane part of the manual. I mean, for the love of Pete, they've probably been using the same little fan header image for years and years.

I tried to get some pics to illustrate if they come through. The board in question is the P5VD2.., the P4S8X is the last one I built, and the last pic is of the connectors with the wires in the correct places. It's a 4pin cpu fan and a 3pin header. You can't really see the wires on it so great, but the black goes to the top.

OK, thanks for stopping in.
Cheers

Ha, maybe they haven't been using the same images. I dug this up from an even older board I've got. Maybe they got confused because of the orientation. Anyhoo.

Hey, assuming you took that picture, very nice job. That's one of the first close-up's to a motherboard posted here I've actually been able to make out ;)

As for the problem, who knows what happened. Maybe new revisions of the board had slight changes that they neglected to update... Or maybe they did update but you got an older manual.

Thanks. I was impressed too. First time playing with the higher res pics on the GFs older Fuji E550.

Yeah, who knows. It just seems odd that it would also go against the general convention for fan wiring.

Cheers

p.s. Also if anyone reading this is wondering. The black connector is just a monitor for the PSU who's dedicated fan connectors I've got the case fans plugged into. Hence no center power wire.
