ASUS Motherboard Issues

Hi,
I have recently purchased an ASUS motherboard but when I have fitted it and attached all the other bits, the motherboard does not come to life, there is a green light on the mobo showing that their is power going to it but when you try and power up the pc, you hear a faint hiss for about 1 second then it stops and the machine does not boot up. I have tried motherboard with all the other bits unplugged apart from the power supply and there is nothing but still the same his. My power supply works when I put my old mobo back in so I am not sure if its a faulty motherboard or something to do with my power supply? I did have to buy a converter to take my power switch from 20 pins to 24 pins for this new type of board and the power supply is 450 Watts, could it be the power supply?

Thanks

make sure that the motherboard is not shorted (as in touching the case) cause that can make the motherboard not working...
also check for all the cable connection and make sure that none is loose...

thats alright, man.

when i say shorted, i meant that make sure you use the riser or stand-off that comes with the motherboard.

even when I have just the motherboard and processor plugged in - Nothing happens apart from the standard light on the motheboard being lit to show power - the cpu fan does not start up. I dunno what it is! I cant help but think there there is nothing wrong with my power supply.....

hmmm
