I am looking for a monitoring program so I can start to overclock my E6600.

What should I look for that is dangerous? Volts right? I just want to make X6800 speeds and call it a day.

What temps are dangerous? What volts are dangerous? I read that the signs of unstable OCing are rebooting, crashing, and breaking... haha

But I am just unsure of what temps/volts I should look for?

Don't OC more if the temps are higher than 60.C.
With good air cooling 1.4V.
With good water cooling 1.45V.
I think its safe :P
You can check is it stable with Prime95 -->Options-->Torture Test.

Do you really have to check it for 6 hours each time? That's a long ass time!

I just ran it for 8 minutes... 0 errors and 0 warnings.

Don't up the volts until you need to. They are just there for when you can't go any fruther.

You don't want the temps over 55C for a Conroe processor.

6 hours is a very short time. After you overclock a certain amount, you'll want to run two Prime95 programs at the same time for 24 hours.

2 Prime95s?! I can't find a program to monitor my CPU temp though

So just overclock til I reach 55C or reach my 2.93ghz goal?

Aight... I got speedfan up and running. This is a monitor only for the CPU? Cuz I want to start overclocking it tomorrow. Temp is at 35C Sound normal?

So does a 2.93 overclocked E6600 sound reasonable going 20C?

I don't think the temps are gonna jump to 55°C only by increasing CPU net speed.

I did a test with my Athlon 64, it was clocked at 2.4 GHz, vCore was 1.25V, when increasing it to 1.45V (+2V) temp jumped by ~10°C,

I don't know if it's same with Core 2 Duo.

What are you actually doing when increasing volts? Does that make the Processor speed faster as well?

On Speedfan... I have two (2) temp readings. 35C and 0C. I am not sure what they are reading though!?

i dun like useing speed fan not accurate i have a p5w deluxe and i got my E6600 at 3.05 ghz at 45c idle but i live in AZ so it makes it worse

So then what do you suggest I use?

theres a support disk that comes with the p5w mobo that comes with a program called ai suite dont use pc probe tho but ai suite is farly accurate i downloaded "Core Temp" and it reads the same as ai suite so yeah. use ai suite and theres alot more features you can use on ai suite

Why is your conroe too high in that temp? your getting 40idle? If so thats too high. I get 20idle and 20-24 on heavy load and the lowest Ive got was 16C idle. When I overclock my cpu to 3.45ghz my temp is at 36C still not at 40C. How is your room temperature? and what case do you have right now?

How in the WORLD do you get 16C idle? you must have your air coditioning below 60.8 F! Lol

i have no clue i have a zalman 9500s with AS5 and a 97 cfm fan blowing in back of the zalman and the stock fan blowing out. (when i added the 97 cfm fan it droped 5c) my room temp is 86f and case temp is 94 f, my case is a antec 160.

i was thinking bout getting water cooling and do you think it might be my board or sumtin?

if you o/c to x6800 speeds, then many people who spent under $200 on their proc will have faster processors than you. lol its overclockable probably to 3.4ghz easily.
always remember, cpu speed above memory speed, as well as cpu speed above cpu cache size...
cpu speed matters a lot, and it'll increase the performance more than more memory speed or cpu cache...

I have a Kandalf LCS (Full Tower)
I have Liquid Cooling
120mm x 3 being used for radiator
1 120mm fan in the case blowing out
2 90mm fans blowing out
