Asus P5Q Pro mobo ?

on this mobo the cpu power plug (4/8pin plug) it has the option of useing a 4 pin plug or 8 pin. right now i have the 8 pin plug plugged in if i use the 4 pin will my psu be useing less power as for my psu is a very crappy one? its a ATX 500w, psps-500. so im just wondering if i should use the 4pin plug instead of the 8 pin?
or if it even matters im just trying to get my pc to use less power so my psu wont go out and have the possibility of damaging other parts.

Here is your power supply, it's really cheap. I wouldn't be using it to power your system.

i dont have money right now for a psu thats why im trying to limit the power my pc is using

You are really pushing it with the 5770 and 4 hard drives. I'm not sure if using the 4 pin would make your power usage any less. However, you may find out that you are actually underpowering your board and run into issues.
