Asus ROG Forumula 5 AM3

I found a Asus Forumla 5 for $115 on a site as a refurb, but I would like to know about the quality of this board. Is it known for the 3rd PCIe slot to not work correctly, do the VRMs overheat easily, do the heatsinks fall off, etc.

It is an Asus board, that is all I am going to say. I think everyone here knows my opinion on them by now. If you don't - my opinion is stay away from them like the plague. I would take one if I was offered one but only so I could sell it to buy a decent board

You see my opinion of them is the opposite. Used a few of them now and not had a problem.

It seems like everybody has different opinions on them, but on the Intel side (and I know this is a thread about an AMD motherboard) for the past two generations (Z77 and Z87) I would have chosen Gigabyte over ASUS I think.

I love Asus boards.. but the ROG boards are way overpriced and several models have known issues-- Asus has abysmal customer service, at best.. so Yah, I'd stick to an Asus in there mainstream line. I've had very good luck with those.. but ROG has burned me several times--and for the price--I expect alot better quality/support

My Maximus V formula was cursed from day1.. Raid problems, driver problems, BIOS issue, poor quality, and Akbar in customer service was unhelpful, rude, and blamed me.

My Sabertooth board, however, was pure quality, and a wonderful board to overclock with--and the thermal armor looks badass!

It's only $115 and it's a refurb so I will be going through their support. Trust me, I don't reccomend Asus or buy Asus but it's such a good deal I am going to get it. And Aastii my opinion is the same as your's on Asus, Jason just has yet to truly deal with Asus's support or RMA service.

I've never had to because I've never had a problem with any of their stuff. ;)

Actually, thinking about it, the only two things I've ever sent back because they've been faulty are G.Skill RAM DIMMs and my first Crucial m4.

True, but a lot of people haven't had problems with their ASRock, Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, Chaintech, ECS, Foxconn, etc. motherboard but it's nice to have peace and mind that if something happens it won't be a problem to replace it.

Then you are one of the fortunate few. I would keep some money to the side for when it does go pop (which, with it being Asus, it inevitably will), unless you are happy to sit without a computer for 6 months.

@OP, you will not have peace of mind if it is a refurb board... You won't have full manufacturer warranty, at best maybe 3-6 month.

For about $10 more you can have a new board

That is better in terms of build quality with near identical features, and a full manufacturer warranty, and an infinitely better warranty at that. I would take the Gigabyte out of the two, especially if you plan on using a USB 3.0 front panel connector as the MSI does not have a port for it on board.

Aastii, Spirit has had his board for over 2 years, a lot more then 6 months. Asus isn't that bad about quality of boards, it's about quality of service. And I didn't say I will have peace of mind about the refurbishers warranty.

Well I've had my P8 for just over a year now, and I had my P7 for a few months but I've had my P5, which the Core 2 Quad runs on, since 2009 which is 4 years now. :)

But anyway, I saw you went for it and got the ROG. Enjoy. :D
